“I suffer from not being able to embrace my suffering. That’s the suffering I want to be able to carry so I can embody who I am. Without suffering I would not be able to feel the pure joy and commitment to life.”
– IAS
A while ago I wanted to write about suffering but at that moment I didn’t feel enough connection with it. Until later, I became restless, sad and afraid. The pain of losing my mom hit me like it had been looking for an opening. Feelings of suffering where I would usually run away from but now only wanted to listen to, so I could take out the lesson it’s been trying to teach me. I tried to embrace it by understanding it. It’s not here to hurt me, it’s here to teach me. So I started asking questions and asking it to show me. And while doing this I got carried by the purest form of love.
Because while trying to allow and embrace the suffering I got help from people who I wouldn’t have thought could help and understand me the way they did. (lesson: ask for help or even better: accept it) What also happened were video’s that came up on YouTube of Monks talking about suffering and how we suffer more, because we don’t know how to embrace it. (lesson: when you ask for signs, they’ll come and will help you understand) And also a friend told me that he just started reading about suffering and that we need to embrace it. Coincidence? The way he & I can speak openly about it supports the growth. (lesson: appreciate connections and honest conversation: you’re not alone in this). So yes, I think it’s something to write about now. Isn’t that funny.
Suffering carries a part within us that will grow and become more painfull until we take the time to sit with it, listen to it, feel it and understand what it wants to tell & teach us. Then sometimes it becomes better in a few seconds, minutes, hours and sometimes it takes days, weeks, months or years. But that’s the process
So try to allow it, don’t run away, make it a priority to become aware of that what may feel as the most scary thing of all. It’s there to help you grow. And when too afraid to do so now?
In Suffering lies the beauty of healing: You Will Embrace It. Because that’s what life’s about. So If not now, than later, because the pain and suffering only stops when you don’t allow it to do so any longer and take out the lesson it wants to teach you ![]()
